Three Ways to Get Your Mississippi Driving Record

Your Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) is the document that shows every active suspension hold, moving violation conviction, and administrative action on your driving record. If you're trying to reinstate a suspended license, the MVR is the diagnostic tool — it tells you exactly which courts, agencies, or out-of-state jurisdictions have placed holds on your record.

Online (Fastest)

Use the DPS Driver Self-Service Portal. The fee is $14.31, payable by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express. You'll enter your license number (or the last four digits of your SSN) and personal information exactly as it appears on your record.

The critical caveat: the online MVR is a one-time view active for only 24 hours. There is no option to go back and view it again after the session expires. Print it or save it as a PDF the moment it loads. If you close the browser without saving, you'll need to pay again.

By Mail

Complete Form DPPA-2 (available on the DPS Driver Service Bureau website), have it notarized, and mail it with an $11 money order or certified cashier's check to:

Include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Personal checks are not accepted — the DPS will return your request unprocessed. Mail processing time is not guaranteed, so request the record early if you need it for reinstatement.

In Person

Bring Form DPPA-2 and a valid state-issued ID to any regional DPS driver's license station. The fee is $11, payable by cash, debit, or credit card. You'll walk out with a printed copy.

What to Look For on Your MVR

The MVR isn't just a list of tickets. For someone dealing with a suspension, the key information is:

Active suspension holds. Each hold lists the originating entity — a specific municipal court, justice court, the Mississippi Department of Human Services (for child support), or an out-of-state DMV. Every single hold must be cleared individually before DPS can reinstate your license. Missing one means you stay suspended.

Violation categories. The type of violation determines the reinstatement fee and requirements: DUI violations carry a $175 reinstatement fee plus MASEP and SR-22 requirements, while a failure-to-appear hold costs $100 and requires a Court Abstract from the originating court.

Out-of-state holds. Mississippi participates in the National Driver Register and the Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS). If another state has reported your license as suspended or revoked, that block shows on your Mississippi MVR and must be resolved in the originating state before Mississippi will act.

The MVR vs. a "License Status Check"

That's useful for a quick yes/no, but it doesn't give you the detail you need to actually fix things. The MVR shows the specific holds, the originating jurisdictions, and the violation types — information you need to know which courts to contact and in what order.
