What they do not expect is the $425 DUI service fee, the mandatory $100 clinical assessment, a 20-hour education program that costs $300 to $500, and four to six months of ignition interlock payments. A first-offense DUI in Kentucky typically costs between $2,000 and $4,500 in direct, unavoidable expenses before you count legal representation or the insurance premium increase that follows.

Court-Imposed Costs (Due at Sentencing)
These are ordered by the judge and must be paid to the District Court clerk:

The $425 DUI service fee is the one that surprises people. It is mandated by statute, not discretionary. Under SB 85, this fee was permanently increased by $50 to fund forensic laboratories, state police operations, public defenders, and the ignition interlock administration program. Older resources that list the fee as $375 are out of date.
Combined, court-imposed costs at sentencing run $775 to $1,125. The court can set up a payment plan, but failing to pay by the review date can result in additional license suspension for nonpayment.
Treatment and Education Costs
Every first-offense DUI conviction requires a substance abuse assessment and an education or treatment program:
